Marimbazzi Duo

Marimbazzi Duo is a band founded in 2015 by two Polish percussionsts, five-time scholarship holders of the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Poland – Jakub Kołodziejczyk and Paweł Dyyak. In their playing, they combine the sound of two marimbas and marimba and vibraphone, basing their repertoire on many original compositions and significant works of percussion literature.

The duo has been invited to numerous music festivals in Poland and abroad, including the Emilia Romagna Festival, La Grande Musica and Estate Musicale del Conservatorio, Krakow Film Festival, 30. Jewish Culture Festival, and VII International “Emanacje” Music Festival.

They performed in famous concert halls, e.g. in: the S1 Polish Radio Concert Studio in Warsaw, the ICE Congress Centre, the Krakow Philharmonic and the Czartoryski Museum in Krakow

They have won a total of four Grand Prix awards, sixteen first and six second prizes at international competitions of chamber music, the most important are: 1st place at the 4th International Competition of Chamber Ensembles Cambra Romanica in Andorra, 1st place at the Salieri Zinetti Chamber Ensemble Competition in Verona, Grand Prix at the Grand Symphony Competition in Astana, 1er Prix à l’unanimité at IMC Paris, 1st place on DRUM FEST competition in Opole 2016/2017/2018, 1st place at the VIII Contest of Contemporary Music in Krakow, Grand Prix at the Percussion Competition of the Center for Artistic Education of Poland, 1st place at the 30th Chamber Music Competition in Wrocław

About Artists

Paweł Dyyak – He started his music education in 2007 in Ignacy Jan Paderewski Primary Music School in Krakow. As a young musician he was awarded at many competitions and had the pleasure to represent his school at many concerts around his home city. In 2013 he become a student of Fryderyk Chopin Music School in Krakow in prof. Leon Olejniczak’s class. As a student he gained a lot of experience which helped him win many competitions on an international level. The most prestigious achievements which won: Four First and Third prizes on “Drum Fest” Percussion Competition in Opole, Second Prize on International Moscow Music Competition, Third Place on the “Marimba Festiva Competition” in Bamberg – Germany, and Three First, Second and Third Prizes on „Srebrna Szybka” Competion of the Nowadays Music in Krakow. He is also the semi-finalist of 2021 IPEA percussion competition in Shanghai. In 2017 & 2019 he received scholarship from Polish Minister of Culture, including the “Młoda Polska” scholarship program. In 2024 he graduated Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice in the class of prof. Krzysztof Jaguszewski. Currently, he on doctoral studies at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow.

He is also an active composer. His works are performed by Marimbazzi Duo and the OneNess band, which recorded some of them on the album “Man Can Change” released in 2022 by Immersive Sound Records

Jakub Kołodziejczyk – He started his music education in 2007 in Ignacy Jan Paderewski Primary Music School in Krakow. He was rewarded in many International and National music competitions and represented his school on many concerts. In 2013 he graduated Primary School and continued his percussion education in Fryderyk Chopin Music High School in prof. Leon Olejniczak’s class. He’s won many prizes, such as: Three First and Second prize at International Competition “Drum Fest” in Opole, Finalist of The International Competition of Music Interpretation in Przemyśl, Two First and Five Second prizes on International Competition in Cracow called “Srebrna Szybka” and Third prize in the International Marimba Competition “Marimba Festiva” in Bamberg. In 2016 & 2021 he received “Młoda Polska” scholarships from Polish Minister of Culture. In 2024 he graduated Karol Szymanowski Academy of music – Jazz Department in prof. Bernard Maseli vibraphone class. He continues his second field of study (classical percussion) in prof. Krzysztof Jaguszewski class in the same Academy.

He is also the composer of part of the repertoire of the Marimbazzi Duo.
